Emotional regulation is typically defined as the process of recognizing, understanding, and managing your emotions to promote well-being and positive social interactions. People who are adept at emotional regulation have better self-control and better relationships with others. Everyone can benefit from emotional regulation. This is especially true for individuals with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or mood disorders.

  • Impulse control
  • Cognitive reappraisal (reframing negative thoughts into more positive or realistic ones)
  • Self-soothing techniques (deep breathing, mindfulness, etc.)
