Supporting Postpartum Moms on Long Island

The first year of your baby’s life is an exciting time filled with new experiences for both you and your child. Biological, psychological, and social factors can also make this a trying time, potentially leading to depression, anxiety, and other emotional fluctuations.

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) affect more than one in five mothers around the world. After pregnancy, many new moms go through various emotional struggles, including:

  • Feelings of sadness or hopelessness
  • Persistent fatigue
  • Difficulty bonding with the baby
  • Anxiety or excessive worry
  • Irritability or mood swings
  • Changes in appetite or sleep patterns
  • Intrusive or distressing thoughts
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  • Withdrawing from loved ones
