Barbara Albano-Hickman

Barbara Albano-Hickman completed her Bachelor’s degree in Human Relations at St. Josephs College and her Masters in Social Work degree at Stony Brook University. Barbara has nearly 40 years of experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings which include: private practice, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and community-based outpatient mental health clinics.

Barbara utilizes a diverse range of therapeutic modalities in her work with individuals, couples, families, and groups. These include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Behavior Modification, Crisis Intervention, Collaborative Assessment and Monitoring of Suicide, Feedback Informed Treatment, and Play Therapy.

 

Barbara’s primary specialization is in working with children and adolescents who struggle with behavioral and emotional issues. Other specializations include: treating individuals who have a co-occurring problem of addiction and young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

In addition to her therapeutic work, Barbara is employed as an Instructor for the New York State Impaired Driver program.

A fundamental belief underlying Barbara’s approach to her work is that every one of us is capable of positive change. It is this guiding principle along with Barbara’s innate genuineness and respect for her clients that has led to her success.
