Alyson Ryan

Alyson Ryan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Suffolk Counseling Services. Alyson has over 18 years of experience working as a social worker – and has the privilege of finding her work joyful and rewarding. It is not uncommon to find Alyson speaking to someone about her love of her job, her respect and admiration for her clients, colleagues and the profession of social work!

Alyson is passionate about assisting individuals on their journey to live a more fulfilling, peaceful and rewarding life. She fulfills her passion by working with clients individually as well as teaching and supervising those who are beginning their career in the mental health field. Alyson is a skilled public speaker, educator, and counselor. Alyson’s professional experience encompasses private practice counseling, supervision of clinicians working towards their independent license, program development and management in the area of domestic and sexual violence, and teaching as an Adjunct Professor at both Hofstra and Adelphi Universities.

In her private practice, Alyson provides individual counseling for a variety of mental health and life adjustment issues. She is well-versed in many therapeutic techniques including:

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy
  • Strength-Based Therapy and Positive Psychology

She is an expert in the field of domestic and sexual violence and is inspired by survivors of trauma. She enjoys working with pregnant and postpartum women and their partners, people affected by anxiety, and young adults experience the quarter-life crisis.

Alyson received her undergraduate degree in Health Service Administration from the University of Central Florida, her master’s degree in Social Work from Stony Brook University.
